| Singing - Vocalist - Stage Performance | I loved performing in musical theatre in school and university, and as an adult I'm a member of professional performing a cappella groups. We perform on stages and at galas. Groups: Noire (Barbershop quartet; top 8 in Asia 2018 & competed and performed at VAF, Vocal Asia Festival, in Hsinchu, Taiwan); Aqua Bellas Contemporary International A Cappella Team (TV Chinese New Year Gala 2016; Live private and public performances throughout Guangdong, China). |
| Audio Editing | I was very lucky to be mentored by audio engineers from animation studios and sound engineers from commercial video production studios, as well as the owners of several voiceover studios, purely out of a shared interest in audio editing and getting fantastic sound! 100% of my focus here has been on audio quality for voices, with or without background music or sound effects. I currently use: Izotope RX7, Waves plugins (a favorite few), FabFilter (several), Ozone 8, Valhalla, and Adobe Audition. |
| IPA and Chinese Pinyin | I'm comfortable reading text written with IPA, the International Phonetic Alphabet, for both British and American English, and have a solid basic understanding and ability to read and produce sounds from the IPA that do not appear in the English language. I am also 100% competent reading text written in Chinese pinyin (the romanized phonetic writing for Mandarin Chinese). |

TRAINING
| Animation Studio | On-site training with Fantawild Animation studio, working with the wonderful team of full-time actors and sound engineers there for 2 years as one of their part-time voice actors for animated films and cartoons. Siobhan Lumsden trained me on mic technique, Trey Hobbs on developing character voice and characterization, T.Y. on staying cool and cheerful in the middle of disasters as well as sound engineering and studio setup, to name just a few. |
| Phonetics & Phonemics, Acoustic Science and Human Speech Production | Part of my post-graduate study in Applied Linguistics (University of Massachusetts, Boston) included extensive focus on human language, including speech production, phonetics, phonemics, sound and acoustic science. It also focused on genre in English text and equipped me with everything I needed to create graded audio for listeners of different ages, backgrounds, English proficiency and education. |
